Reconstructed Neolithic House Beidha, Jordan

Reconstructed Neolithic House
Beidha, Jordan

Understanding a neolithic site can be daunting for the non-specialist, but at Beidha the visitor can view scientific reconstructions of what the dwellings may have looked like. This is really a type of experimental archaeology, designed to answer questions such as:

  • were the roofs flat or pointed?
  • how long did it take to build the houses?
  • what skills and materials were required in their construction?
  • how often did they need repair?
  • how hot or cold were they, at different times of the year?
Archaeologists even set one of the recreated houses on fire, to better understand the patterns of burning they were seeing in the excavated settlement.
